“Arquitectura Bioclimática Extrema”

This book shows a design methodology to achieve an «extreme bioclimatic architecture», emphasizing the necessary architectural bioclimatic strategies.

Currently terms as “green” and «sustainable» have been manipulated and corrupted to the point that they have no meaning, and therefore have little use, just an opportunistic media utility. The same is true with respect to «bioclimatic architecture» or «passive strategies.» The terms have been corrupted to the point that today are meaningless, and just any little excuse is needed (however insignificant as: cross ventilation, solar protection…) to use them.

But you can go much further because an architecture capable of thermally self-regulate can be achieved, due only to its special design and without using technological devices. An architecture that consumes the least amount of energy, and does not have a substantial economic cost overrun: an «extreme bioclimatic architecture».

In the first part of the book and to achieve an extreme bioclimatic architecture capable of thermally self-regulate Luis De Garrido has identified a very special architectural design methodology based on establishing «initial fuzzy bioclimatic proto-solutions» and the use of “bioclimatic architecture strategies”. These bioclimatic architectural strategies are different configurations of architectural elements, conveniently designed, to keep the building warm or cold, without technological devices.

In the second part of the book Luis De Garrido analyzes in detail all known bioclimatic architectural strategies:

  1. Architecturalstrategiesto generate heat andcool
  2. Architecturalstrategiesfor accumulatingheat and cool
  3. Architecturalstrategiesto transfer heat and cool

Finally, to illustrate the discussed concepts, some of the latest and advanced bioclimatic buildings designed by Luis De Garrido are analyzed in depth.
